Madagascar is among the 17 countries richest in Biodiversity thanks to its high potential in flora and fauna. 100% the endemicity rate of lemurs in Madagascar, the largest of which is Indri indri, 14,000 plant species of which 80% are endemic. Chameleons are abundant from tallest to tallest.

This circuit is accessible all year round from January to December.

DAY 1: Reception at ivato airport

Arrival at Ivato International Airport, reception and transfer to the hotel. Even if Madagascar is in the southern hemisphere and everyone thinks it’s very hot there, on the contrary, in winter it’s cold in the highlands; the temperature drops to 6 ° C.

The Zamilane tours team will accompany you to your hotel and inform you about everything you need to do during your stay in Madagascar.

DAY 2: Tana – Andasibe

After breakfast, you head east, crossing the city, until you reach the famous “NATIONAL ROUTE 2: RN2”. From there, you count 75 km for the first stop to visit the Peyrieras reptile reserve. It is a small reserve where you can see very closely different types of chameleon, the largest of which is the Parsonnii chameleon “Calumma Parsonnii”; different types of gecko uroplatis endemic to Madagascar, snakes, frogs, bats and butterflies … The visit lasts approximately 45 minutes.

After the visit, you continue towards the Andasibe park. Lunch on the way, and in the afternoon, visit a lemur island, in the famous vakona reserve which is located about 7km from the village of Andasibe. During this visit, you will discover and even touch the soft fluff of these lemurs. In this small reserve, you will see the species of lemurs such as: Eulemur fulvus (tawny lemur), varecia variegata (Black and white maki), varecia rubra (Red maki), Sifaka (Dancer lemur), Hapalemur griseus (Small bamboo lemur) )…

Late afternoon, dinner and overnight at the hotel.

DAY 3: Andasibe

After breakfast at the hotel, you will visit the national park managed by Madagascar National Parc for 3 hours. It is the second most visited park after Isalo Park. Andasibe Park has two separate reserves: the Mantadia Reserve and the Analamazaotra Reserve. The tourist attraction of Andasibe Périnet remains in the observation of lemurs, orchids and birds. This is an opportunity to see the largest lemur in Madagascar “Indri indri” or locally called “Babakoto” in its natural habitat.

Afternoon, visit the crocodile reserve.

DAY 4: Andasibe – Antsirabe

Departure to Antsirabe, arriving on the RN7 road, the landscape changes as well as the lifestyle of the local population.

30km from the city of Antananarivo, on the RN7, we stop for the visit of a small workshop of objects in Raffia.

70km from the capital, we enter the city of Ambatolampy, a city located at the foot of the third highest peak in Madagascar. This city has its specificity for the manufacture of aluminum objects. Thanks to the existence of local raw materials, the young people of Ambatolampy can build various aluminum materials.

We continue towards Antsirabe, admiring the beautiful landscapes of the high plateaus: terrace crops of rice, corn, various vegetables, barley….

After lunch, we proceed to visit the first hotel in Madagascar, “Hôtel des thermes” which was built in 1897 and which still works today. Not far from Independence Avenue is Chez Joseph, which is also very famous for its semi-precious stone workshop. And then we continue to visit the workshop of zebu horns and the workshop of miniature objects, at Mamy’s, which are located side by side. To end your day, rickshaw tours in the city center.

DAY 5: Antsirabe – Ranomafana

Depart south to explore new landscapes.

Just 20km from the city, we meet young cyclists transporting charcoal for sale from their countryside to the city of Antsirabe. Arriving at the village of Mandoto, weather permitting, we will visit the local village, the base of their daily life.

Arrival at Ambositra around 11 a.m. Ambositra is the capital of the Zafimaniry tribe, one of the tribes appreciated for their skill in carving wood. Stop for the visit to the stationery workshop: demonstration and visit of the finished products. This is the only place where you can buy wooden items.

Lunch at Ambositra, then we continue to Ranomafana.

DAY 6: Ranomafana

The morning is dedicated to the discovery of Ranomafana Park. It is a very famous and very visited park thanks to its species that are not found anywhere else: plant species such as tree ferns, bamboo …; animal species: bamboo lemur, sifaka lemur, etc .; hiking last at least 2H30.

Lunch at the restaurant, very close to the village, in the afternoon visit to the Tanala village, it is a typical village which represents the life of the Tanala. End of the afternoon, return to the hotel.

DAY 7: Ranomafana – Ranohira

Early morning departure from Ranomafana to the Southwest, stop at Ambalavao to visit the famous Antemoro paper workshop.

After the various visits to downtown Ambalavao, we continue the road to Anja Park. It is a small park managed by the COBA (Community of Base), thanks to the existence of a species of lemur which lives there, it is a Maki catta. It’s a great place to see lemurs, chameleons and sometimes snakes.

After lunch, we will dive entirely in the southern part of Madagascar. The landscape changes, vegetation is scarce, the Zebus are numerous, because we arrive in the territory where people do not plant a lot of rice, but are rather breeder of zebus.

At the end of the afternoon, we arrive at the village of RANOHIRA, an ecotourism village located at the entrance to the Isalo National Park.

DAY 8: Isalo Park

We have a full day to explore the beauty of Isalo Park. The Isalo National Park is a protected area of ​​Madagascar, declared a national park in 1999.

It is a mountain range of Jurassic sandstone, stretching for almost a hundred kilometers, in a north-south direction, and cut by deep canyons and bristling with peaks.

Isalo National Park covers an area of ​​81,540 ha, stretching for almost one hundred kilometers, in a north-south direction. The erosion of the rock has carved a ruiniform relief, varying from 820 to 1240m above sea level, with deep canyons, rivers, and abundant rocky vegetation. The park is also home to lemurs and other lemurs.

During your stay at Isalo, the morning is dedicated to hiking to the natural swimming pool. Now is the time to know the rites of the Bara tribe during the funeral and also see their provisional and final tombs and in the afternoon, hike in the canyon, to the blue and black pool. Possibility to see the sifaka or the lemur dancer and the maki catta.

At the end of the afternoon, sunset at the window of Isalo.

DAY 9: Isalo-Tulear Park – Mangily

By abandoning the chaotic and canonical landscape of Isalo, new discoveries await us along the way. The landscape changes and the daily life of the local people also changes according to the rhythm of the climate. Around noon, you arrive at the city of Tulear. Lunch at the restaurant specializing in seafood and in the afternoon you will visit the Baobab reserve in Mangily.

Transfer to the hotel.

DAY 10: Beach

Return to Antananarivo by domestic flight. Checked baggage 20 kg, hand baggage 5 kg.

Arrival in Antananarivo, transfer to the hotel or visit of the upper town, it depends on the arrival in Antananarivo.

DAY 12: City tours

After breakfast, departure for the visit of King Andrianampoinimerina’s palace in Ambohimanga or blue hill. This hill is classified as World Heritage by UNESCO. It is made up of a royal city, a royal funerary site and a set of sacred places.

In the afternoon, discover the dike market. It is a craft market where you can buy small souvenirs from Madagascar, before returning.

Day use at the hotel and after dinner, transfer to the airport.
