Baobabs amoureux 7 days

Madagascar is among the 17 “mega-diverse” countries thanks to its high concentration of biodiversity. It is included in the very selective list of mega-diverse countries. The majority of the flora and fauna it shelters are almost all endemic.

This tour brings us to discover the flora of Madagascar which is one of the richest flora in the world. It is estimated that there are between 13,000 and 14,000 species, 80% of which are endemic. Among these 14,000 species, there are BAOBABS species.

Out of the 8 Baobab species existing in the world, 7 species are present in Madagascar, 6 of which are endemic. These are Adansonia grandidieri, A. rubrostipa, A. za, A. madagascariensis, A. perrieri and A. suarezensis. A. digitata is well represented in western Madagascar and is common in Africa.

This circuit is accessible all year round, whether in winter or summer. In winter, as its nickname suggests, “the tree is upside down” because it has no leaves and its branches look like roots. In summer, it has leaves, coinciding with the onset of rain to capture water to survive the drought.
