Heritage is what our ancestors kept and bequeathed to their descendants, sometimes so that we remember them and what their lives were, sometimes according to the circumstances. It’s a legacy that’s passed down from generation to generation, and we’re all part of that chain of transmission.

This 15-day circuit allows us to discover the very impressive skills of the inherited Malagasy people, their Malagasy ancestors and also foreigners who have arrived, and coexist with the Malagasy people.

Day 1: Antananarivo

Antananarivo is the capital of Madagascar, city of a thousand warriors at the time of King Andrianjato in 1610, city of reincarnation of old 2CV, 4L cars … which are still in use until now, thanks to Malagasy know-how.

After various checks, at Ivato airport, you go out to meet your guide for the first time, and above all do not forget to make the exchange at the airport, because unlike in other countries, it is there. the exchange is better: the rate is good. As you leave town, the rate decreases more and more.

Day 2: Antananarivo – Antsirabe

After breakfast, departure to the south, taking the famous RN7. Just out of town, you will discover the skill of the Malagasy for building bricks with their hands that they inherited from the French who was shipwrecked in the south-east of Madagascar: Jean Laborde. You continue south, stop at Ambatolampy for the visit of the pot workshop. It’s an aluminum workshop that the young locals inherited from their ancestors. It is the capital of aluminum objects. In the afternoon, you continue the road to admire the beautiful landscapes of the highlands: the tombs of the Merina tribe, the terrace crops, fields of corn, rice and various vegetables.

At the end of the afternoon, arrived in Antsirabe. Dinner and overnight at Antsirabe.

Day 3: Antsirabe – Ambositra

The morning is devoted to the visit of the city of water: Antsirabe. Departure for the visit of the thermal baths hotel, which is the first hotel in Madagascar, built in 1897. You then continue for the visit of the semi-precious stones workshop managed by Joseph. And finally, your trip will take you to the zebu horn workshops and the miniature object recycling workshop.

Before going to the restaurant to taste the Malagasy dish, we organize a little rickshaw ride for you.

In the afternoon, you continue south, you always change landscapes to Ambositra: literally “place to castrate zebus”. At the end of the afternoon, visit the carved wood workshop. Ambositra is the capital of the Zafimaniry, famous for their ability to carve wood.

Day 4: Ambositra – Antoetra- Ambositra

Departure to Antoetra, early in the morning to visit the authentic village of the zafimaniry. After two hours on the road, you will arrive in Antoetra, the terminus of the road accessible by car. From there we will start a short hike to Ifasina. It is the section most seen by tourists passing through Madagascar, during their journey on the RN7. Departing from Antoetra, you will hike about 10 km in one day: four or five hours of walking at your own pace, to go back and forth, and visit the nearest typical Zafimaniry village: Ifasina. It is not a very sporty hike.

Picnic lunch. At the end of the afternoon, return to Ambositra.

Day 5: Ambositra- Lake hotel Fianarantsoa

Departure from Ambositra to Fianarantsoa. After arriving in the village of Antokomasiaka, 10 km before arriving in Fianarantsoa, ​​we prepare a short hike, passing 3 typical Betsileo villages. The first village is called Antokomasiaka, where there is a church, it is the starting point of the short hike, then we pass in the second village which is called Solaitra and the third village it is a royal village Vohimasina. The three villages represent the arts and lifestyles of the Betsileo tribe. Visit the village and the King’s house, and at noon, traditional meal with the locals.

In the afternoon, visit the tea plantation. The Sahambavy tea plantation is the only one in Madagascar, so there is no competitor yet. For the coming years, they are working both on the development of green tea, known for its beneficial health qualities and currently in great demand in Western markets, and on an organic tea project.

Dinner and overnight at the Lac hotel. Charming hotel in Sahambavy | The Lake Hotel is located at the foot of the tea garden in Fianarantsoa: Bungalows, sleeping cars, rooms on stilts by the lake.

Day 6: Fianarantsoa – tsaranoro valley Andringitra

Departure from the hotel to join the RN7 road, arrival in Ambalavao after 2 hours of driving, at the moramora rhythm, visit of the silk workshop: It is a small workshop which treats the cocoons of wild silkworms which live symbiotically on Tapia leaves. Then visit an Antemoro paper workshop at Bougainvilliers.

After the various visits to downtown Ambalavao, we continue the road to Anja Park. It is a small park managed by the COBA (Grassroots Community) thanks to the existence of a species of lemur that lives there, it is a Maki catta. It’s a great place to see lemurs, chameleons and sometimes snakes.

In the afternoon, after lunch, you continue south, fork to Andringitra, after 20 km. From the asphalt road to the Tsaranoro valley after an hour’s drive. Regarding the tourist site of Andringitra, the Tsaranoro valley is known for its hiking, climbing and paragliding sites. Listed internationally, it is one of the most famous spots in Madagascar. Tsaranoro is located in the commune of Vohitsoaka, near the Andringitra National Park, south of Fianarantsoa. Tsaranoro is above all a cliff, the valley then took the same name. It offers superb landscapes, including the village of Morarano, consisting of traditional houses and perched at an altitude of 850 m. Tsaranoro is often considered as the starting point for the ascent of Boby peak. The climb begins at the end of the sacred forest, along a path that leads to a plateau. From there, the view of Mont Caméléon is magnificent. The route continues through a narrow valley planted with an altitude palm forest and there again, the panoramic view from the top of the plateau is spectacular.

Day 7: Tsaranoro Valley.

Hiking in the Tsaranoro valley, to the top of the chameleon peak at 1600m altitude. Along the way, you admire the beautiful landscapes, lush vegetation, animals such as birds, cat lemurs.

Picnic lunch and late afternoon return to the hotel.

 Day 8: Tsaranoro Valley – Isalo Park.

Departure from the hotel to join the asphalt road. You miss the famous RN7 and now you are there again, with the beautiful landscapes of Ankaramena, a small village which is bordered by mango trees, papaya trees and many other fruits.

Small stop at the beautiful view which allows to see a large rock in the form of a bishop’s hat and is very sacred for the Bara because their ancestors had died on this rock, by committing suicide, to avoid being under the command of King Radama I.

Lunch along the way; if you find a good restaurant, it is better to have lunch in Ihosy (the capital of the Bara tribe and the capital of the Ihorombe region. The general morphology of the IHOROMBE reveals three very distinct sectors (East, West and South), differentiated from the point of view of landscapes, micro-climates and hydrographic networks. It is the least populated region of Madagascar, 178,000 inhabitants, with a density which revolves around 6.5 inhabitants / km². Households are between 4 and 5 people. The population, mostly rural, is agro-pastoral, favored by the presence of vast fertile cultivable land. The preferred farming system is the practice of vast pastures for the breeding of cattle and agriculture with extensible area. This farming system contributed to the remoteness (on average, the villages are distant of 70 km) and the instability of the areas of habitats of the population, and does not hardly facilitates zoning, for an administrative organization.

After lunch, you will spend the rest of your day passing the famous Ihorombe plateau: a vast plateau which is among the six categories of protected areas managed by IUCN.

Day 09: isalo park

Early departure for a short hike inside the isalo park. This is made up of coarse sandstones which are transgressive and discordant on the Sakamena, with basic conglomerates. Fossil: silicified wood. Once there, your local guide will explain not only the rock formation, which is very fascinating, but also the rites of local people who bury their dead inside the park.

Picnic lunch provided by young local cooks. At the end of the afternoon, you will wait for sunset at the Isalo window. This is called the Isalo window because the sun sets through a rock with a large natural hole, formed by erosion and wind, millions of years ago.

Day 10: isalo park – Mangily

Departure from Ranohira to go to the Atsimo Andre¬fana Region which occupies the southern part of the Morondava sedimentary basin, which appears as a succession of depressions, slopes (cuestas) and plateaus (reverse) of North-South orientation.

The geological structure of the surface gives the basin the image of a sort of glacis inclined towards the west, intersected by faults and gradually drowning towards the sea.

Due to its climate, the nature of its soils, its relief, two types of vegetation can be encountered in the Atsimo Andrefana Region: land formations and coastal or mangrove formations.

On the interior limestone plateaus, there are dense dry forests of the Western domain in series with Com¬miphora and Dalbergia, savannas with predominantly grasses: Danga or Ahidambo (Heteropogon contortus), Vero (Hyparrhenia rufa) woody elements such as Sakoa (Poupartia caffra).

Stop at ILAKAKA for the visit of the sapphire quarry which is located about 30 km from the park. Originally, in 1998, Ilakaka (from its official name, “Andohan ‘Ilakaka”) was only a plain that stood out with a small dam on a river. The discovery of a sapphire vein created a real rush towards this desert heath, about twenty kilometers south of Ranohira along the RN7.

Arrival around 1 pm in Tulear, it’s time to enjoy a seafood dish in a typical restaurant specializing in seafood: enjoy your meal!

In the afternoon, since you are already at the final stage of the RN7, this time you will take the RN9 which connects Tuléar in the north, to Morondava, on the other hand, you will stop just 30km from Tuléar : Mangily.

Before going to rest at the hotel which is opposite the Mozambique Channel, you will pass by the Reniala reserve for the visit of dozens of bottle Baobabs, of different very fascinating shapes. The visit lasts about an hour.

Days 11, 12, 13: free day

Two whole days of relaxation by the seaside of the Mozambique Channel. There are many activities you could do, depending on your choice: canoe trip, snorkeling, visit to the fishing village.

Day 14: Tulear – Antananarivo

Departure from Tulear to Antananarivo with the local airline “Tsaradia” which lasts 2 hours. When you arrive in Antananarivo, visit the upper town for a panoramic view of the West facade of Antananarivo: you can do it, weather permitting.

Day 15: King’s palace: Ambohimanga

After breakfast, departure for the visit of King Andrianampoinimerina’s palace in Ambohimanga. This hill is classified as World Heritage by UNESCO. It consists of a royal city, a royal funerary site and a set of sacred places.

In the afternoon, discover the dike market. It is a craft market where you can buy small souvenirs of Madagascar before returning.

Day use at the hotel, and after dinner, transfer to the airport.
